I often get asked how I got into wedding photography and the answer is quite simple - I got married!

When we had set a wedding date for September 2004, I was given the job of finding a wedding photographer for our wedding. Not an easy task at the time as the internet was still in its infancy and not many photographers had twigged as to the power or a website, let alone a blog.

I came up with three photographers, out of almost 30 that I looked at, who I felt would take better pictures than I could. Photographers who had something a little different about their pictures. Having such a short list created problems.

One was booking two years in advance (we had about 8 months to go at that time) and was already booked on our wedding date. Another was just too expensive for us when we had factored in all his 'extras' and one did not get back to me at all.

Given that I felt I could do better, I wanted to take our own wedding photographs but, not surprisingly, was not allowed to.

This then started me on a career change from teacher of outdoor activities to a wedding photographer and I have loved every minute of it.

With so many wonderful venues in Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Gloucestershire and Shropshire, and so may fantastic people, I can't see myself getting bored with it anytime soon. I see it as an opportunity to be a little different to many photographers and to create fantastic photographs and albums that will be treasured for a long time to come.

Now our first son is old enough to understand what I do, and has always shown an interest in photography, cameras, technology, people and places (I wonder where he got that from?) it might be time to take him to a wedding with me. Then again, at only five years old, I may wait a little longer...
